Vizicon Gold

Vizicon Gold is indicated for the prevention and treatment of the following conditions:

• Iron-deficiency anemia — established use, either as monotherapy or as an adjunct after the underlying cause of iron deficiency has been identified and addressed.
• Combined iron, folate, zinc, and B-vitamin deficiency states, such as those seen in poor dietary intake, malabsorption, or increased physiological demand.
• Nutritional supplementation during pregnancy and lactation — guideline-supported (WHO antenatal care recommendations support routine iron and folic acid supplementation in pregnancy); Vizicon Gold is commonly used for this purpose under physician guidance.
• Convalescence and general debility — adjunct use to support recovery of hematologic and nutritional status after illness, surgery, or blood loss.
• Prophylaxis of nutritional anemia in populations at risk (e.g. menstruating women, adolescents, the elderly with poor intake) — commonly used, though the decision should be individualized.

Vizicon Gold is a multi-ingredient hematinic and nutritional supplement and is not intended to treat anemias unrelated to iron, folate, zinc, or B-vitamin deficiency (e.g. anemia of chronic disease, hemolytic anemia, thalassemia) unless a physician has specifically determined a concurrent deficiency exists.

Each dose of Iron Polymaltose Complex + Folic Acid + Zinc + Vitamin B-Complex typically provides a combination of:

• Elemental iron (as iron polymaltose complex / iron (III)-hydroxide polymaltose complex)
• Folic acid
• Zinc (commonly as zinc sulfate)
• Vitamin B-Complex (typically including thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), pyridoxine (B6), and cyanocobalamin (B12), among other B-vitamins depending on the specific formulation)

Exact strengths per tablet, capsule, or syrup/suspension dose vary by manufacturer and formulation; patients should check the product label or ask their pharmacist for the exact composition of the specific brand dispensed.

Vizicon Gold is a fixed-dose combination nutritional/hematinic product that pairs iron in the polymaltose (iron(III)-hydroxide polymaltose complex) form with folic acid, zinc, and B-complex vitamins.

Iron polymaltose complex is a non-ionic, macromolecular iron formulation designed to release iron in a controlled manner, which generally results in better gastrointestinal tolerability compared with conventional ferrous salts (e.g. ferrous sulfate, ferrous fumarate). Folic acid supports normal red blood cell formation and DNA synthesis, zinc supports immune function and growth, and the B-complex vitamins support energy metabolism and neurological function. Together, these ingredients are combined to address the overlapping nutritional deficiencies commonly seen in iron-deficiency anemia and general nutritional depletion.

Vizicon Gold is available in Bangladesh in oral formulations such as tablets and syrup/suspension, and is commonly prescribed by physicians for pregnant women, children, and adults with or at risk of nutritional anemia.

Vizicon Gold belongs to the therapeutic class of hematinics and antianemic preparations combined with vitamins and minerals (multivitamin-mineral hematinic combinations). It is classified under oral iron/folic acid/trace element/vitamin combination products used for the management and prevention of nutritional anemia.

Mechanism of action of Iron Polymaltose Complex + Folic Acid + Zinc + Vitamin B-Complex:

• Iron (as polymaltose complex): Iron(III)-hydroxide polymaltose complex is a stable macromolecular complex that releases iron by a controlled, active-transport-mediated absorption process in the duodenum and proximal jejunum, rather than by passive diffusion of free ionic iron. Absorbed iron is transported bound to transferrin to the bone marrow, where it is incorporated into hemoglobin for erythropoiesis, and to other tissues for storage as ferritin/hemosiderin.
• Folic acid: Converted to its active metabolite, which acts as a coenzyme in one-carbon transfer reactions essential for purine and pyrimidine synthesis, supporting normal erythropoiesis and preventing megaloblastic changes.
• Zinc: An essential trace element and cofactor for numerous metalloenzymes; supports immune function, wound healing, growth, and protein/nucleic acid synthesis.
• Vitamin B-Complex: B1, B2, B6, and B12 (composition varies by brand) function as coenzymes in carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism, and B12 additionally supports DNA synthesis and neurological function, complementing folic acid in preventing megaloblastic anemia.

Take Vizicon Gold preferably on an empty stomach for best absorption; it may be taken with food if it causes stomach upset. Avoid taking it at the same time as tea, coffee, milk, calcium supplements, or antacids — separate dosing by at least 2 hours. Swallow tablets whole with water; shake suspension/syrup formulations well before use and measure the dose with the provided measuring device.

Vizicon Gold has the following clinically significant drug interactions:

• Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolone antibiotics: Both the iron and zinc components of Vizicon Gold can chelate with tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones, reducing the absorption and efficacy of both the antibiotic and the mineral. These should be separated by at least 2-3 hours.
• Antacids and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)/H2-blockers: These reduce gastric acidity, which can reduce absorption of iron and zinc from Vizicon Gold; separate dosing where possible.
• Levodopa, penicillamine, and bisphosphonates: Iron and zinc may reduce absorption of these agents; separate administration times.
• Calcium supplements and dairy products: May reduce iron and zinc absorption when taken concurrently.

Iron polymaltose complex generally has lower interaction potential with food and drugs compared with ionic (ferrous salt) iron preparations, but the interactions above remain clinically relevant.

Vizicon Gold is generally well tolerated, particularly because iron polymaltose complex causes less gastrointestinal irritation than conventional ferrous iron salts. Reported side effects include:

• Common: Mild gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, epigastric fullness), dark or greenish-black stools (a harmless effect of unabsorbed iron), and mild nausea from the zinc component, particularly if taken on an empty stomach.
• Less common: Constipation or loose stools, metallic taste, headache.
• Rare: Allergic reactions (skin rash, itching); rarely, more significant hypersensitivity reactions.

If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction occur, discontinue and consult a physician promptly.

Iron and folic acid supplementation is recommended by WHO and obstetric guidelines as part of routine antenatal care to reduce the risk of maternal anemia and neural tube defects, and Vizicon Gold is commonly used for this purpose in pregnancy and lactation. However, the specific combination product should be used only under a physician's guidance, as dosing needs and the appropriateness of the zinc and B-complex components can vary by trimester and individual nutritional status. Use only if clearly needed and if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk; consult a physician before use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and follow the prescribed dose rather than self-medicating, to avoid excessive intake of any single micronutrient.

Use Vizicon Gold with caution in the following situations:

• Patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease, ulcerative colitis, or other gastrointestinal inflammatory conditions, as iron and zinc supplementation may occasionally exacerbate symptoms.
• Patients on chronic zinc or iron supplementation from other sources — monitor for cumulative excess intake and, in long-term use, periodic monitoring of iron status and copper levels (high-dose zinc can cause copper deficiency) is advisable.
• Keep out of reach of children — accidental ingestion of iron-containing products is a recognized cause of pediatric poisoning (see Overdose).
• Not a substitute for treating the underlying cause of anemia; investigate and address the cause (e.g. blood loss, malabsorption) alongside supplementation.

Although iron polymaltose complex has a lower acute toxicity risk than ionic ferrous iron salts, overdose of Vizicon Gold — particularly with large or repeated excessive doses, or accidental ingestion by children — can still cause iron toxicity, including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and in severe cases, more serious systemic effects. Excessive zinc intake can cause nausea, vomiting, and, with chronic excess, copper deficiency and anemia.

In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center / emergency services right away. Do not attempt home treatment; bring the product packaging with you to the hospital if possible.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Pregnancy and lactation: Commonly used under physician guidance for antenatal and postnatal nutritional support; see Pregnancy and Lactation section.

Pediatric use: Vizicon Gold may be used in children in age/weight-appropriate formulations (e.g. syrup) as prescribed by a physician; the safety and efficacy of specific fixed-dose combination strengths have not been separately established for all pediatric age groups, so dosing should follow the specific product's approved labeling and pediatric guidance.

Elderly: No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but elderly patients should be monitored for gastrointestinal tolerability and, in long-term use, periodic review of iron and nutritional status is advisable.

Renal/hepatic impairment: No well-established formal dose adjustment; use with caution and physician oversight, as data on specific adjustment in significant renal or hepatic impairment are limited.

Duration of Vizicon Gold therapy depends on the indication. For treatment of iron-deficiency anemia, therapy is typically continued for 3-6 months, including a period after hemoglobin normalizes, to replenish body iron stores. For antenatal prophylaxis, it is generally continued throughout pregnancy and, per guideline recommendations, often into the postpartum period as advised by the physician. For general nutritional supplementation, duration is individualized based on clinical response and physician assessment.

Iron Polymaltose Complex + Folic Acid + Zinc + Vitamin B-Complex works through the combined, complementary actions of its components: iron (as the polymaltose complex) is absorbed via a controlled, receptor-mediated pathway and incorporated into hemoglobin to correct iron-deficiency anemia; folic acid and vitamin B12 (part of the B-complex) support DNA synthesis and normal red blood cell maturation, preventing megaloblastic changes; zinc acts as a cofactor for numerous enzymatic processes supporting immune function and tissue repair; and the remaining B-complex vitamins support cellular energy metabolism. Together these correct or prevent the overlapping micronutrient deficiencies that commonly accompany iron-deficiency anemia.

Vizicon Gold may be used in children as a nutritional supplement or to treat/prevent iron-deficiency anemia and associated deficiencies, using an age- and weight-appropriate formulation (typically a syrup/suspension for younger children) and dose as directed by a pediatrician. Formal safety and efficacy data for specific fixed-dose combination strengths have not been established for every pediatric age group; therefore, use in infants and young children should be under direct medical supervision, following the specific product's approved age range and dosing instructions. Keep out of reach of children due to the risk of accidental overdose/poisoning from iron-containing products.
