Indications of Erdostin 300 mg
Erdostin 300 mg is a mucolytic drug used in the treatment of acute and chronic respiratory diseases. It also improves the symptoms associated with short episodes of chronic bronchitis.

Erdostin 300 mg is a prodrug that is metabolised into N-thiodiglycolyl-homocysteine whereby free thiol groups are formed leading to the opening of the disulphide bonds of the bronchial mucoproteins, thus reducing the viscosity of mucus and purulent sputum.
Absorption
It also antagonises the local formation of free radicals and inhibits elastase enzyme activity and bacterial adhesion to epithelial cells.
Dosage & Administration of Erdostin 300 mg
The usual dose of elderly patients and adults above 18 years is 1 capsule twice daily for 10 days. But study shows that in chronic cases Erdostin 300 mg can be given up to 12 months or as directed by the physician. Erdostin 300 mg capsule may be taken with or without food.

Contraindications
It is contraindicated to patients who have hypersensitivity to Erdostin 300 mg. It should not be used in patients with creatinine clearance <25 ml/min, or with severe liver failure.

Common side effect is epigastric pain. Other side effects include headache, cold, taste alterations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, angioedema and other skin allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The use of Erdostin 300 mg in pregnant or breast-feeding women is not recommended.
Precautions & Warnings
It should be used with caution in mild liver failure. In that case, should not exceed a dose of 300 mg per day.
