Erocin250 mg
ACME Laboratories Ltd.

Erosa 250 mg is effective against a wide variety of bacterial infections, including:
Always take Erosa 250 mg exactly as prescribed by a registered physician. Self-medication with antibiotics can lead to treatment failure and antibiotic resistance.
Erosa 250 mg belongs to the macrolide group of antibiotics and is derived from the bacterium Streptomyces erythreus. Depending on the formulation, it is supplied as Erosa 250 mg stearate, Erosa 250 mg ethylsuccinate, or Erosa 250 mg base, all of which deliver the same active antibacterial compound once absorbed.
It produces a bacteriostatic effect at usual doses (stopping bacterial growth) and can become bactericidal (killing bacteria) at higher concentrations, by specifically interfering with protein synthesis inside the bacterial cell. Erosa 250 mg is particularly useful for treating infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci and is often prescribed as a penicillin alternative in patients with penicillin allergy.

Erosa 250 mg inhibits microsomal protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria by blocking the translocation step of protein assembly. It binds specifically to the 50S ribosomal subunit (or the 70S ribosome in susceptible organisms) without attaching to the human body's own 80S ribosomes, which is why it can disrupt bacterial growth while sparing human cells. This selective action makes Erosa 250 mg effective against many gram-positive bacteria, several gram-negative organisms, and atypical pathogens such as Mycoplasma and Chlamydia.
The dose of Erosa 250 mg depends on the patient's age, body weight, and the severity of the infection being treated. The following is a general dosing guide — always follow the exact dose prescribed by a registered physician.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Erosa 250 mg inhibits the liver enzyme CYP3A4, which can raise the blood levels of several other medications. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking before starting Erosa 250 mg.
In patients receiving high doses of theophylline, concurrent use of Erosa 250 mg can raise serum theophylline levels and increase the risk of theophylline toxicity. The theophylline dose may need to be reduced under medical supervision.
Erosa 250 mg is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Erosa 250 mg or other macrolide antibiotics. It should also not be used together with cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, or terfenadine due to the risk of serious cardiac arrhythmias, or with ergot alkaloids due to the risk of ergotism.
Most people tolerate Erosa 250 mg well, but like all antibiotics, it can cause side effects in some patients.
Seek prompt medical attention if you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe or persistent diarrhea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or an irregular heartbeat while taking Erosa 250 mg.
Clinical and laboratory studies have shown no evidence of teratogenicity (birth defects) or toxicity to the developing fetus in humans. However, caution should still be exercised when prescribing Erosa 250 mg to pregnant or breastfeeding women, since the drug crosses the placental barrier and is excreted in breast milk.
Erosa 250 mg is sometimes specifically prescribed during pregnancy for chlamydial genital infections when tetracycline-class antibiotics are contraindicated. As with any medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, use should only be under the guidance of a qualified physician, who will weigh the benefits against any potential risks.
In case of suspected overdose, Erosa 250 mg should be discontinued immediately and the patient should seek emergency medical care. Management focuses on prompt elimination of any unabsorbed drug (such as gastric lavage where appropriate) along with other supportive and appropriate measures as determined by a physician. Erosa 250 mg is not effectively removed from the body by peritoneal dialysis or haemodialysis.
Store Erosa 250 mg below 25°C, away from direct light and moisture. Keep all medicines, including Erosa 250 mg, safely out of the sight and reach of children.
Safety and effectiveness in children less than 12 years have not been established.
