Glustin Plus is a topical (external-use) combination product indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pain of muscles and joints associated with conditions such as:

• Simple backache
• Arthralgia (joint pain) associated with osteoarthritis
• Muscle strains and sprains
• General joint stiffness

The counter-irritant components (camphor and peppermint oil) act quickly to produce a cooling and warming sensation that helps mask musculoskeletal discomfort, while glucosamine and chondroitin are included as cartilage-supporting agents in a topical delivery form. Glustin Plus is intended only for temporary symptomatic relief and is not a substitute for evaluation and treatment of the underlying cause of joint or muscle pain.

Each application of Glucosamine + Chondroitin + Camphor + Peppermint oil topical preparation contains Glucosamine (as glucosamine sulfate/hydrochloride), Chondroitin sulfate, Camphor, and Peppermint oil (containing menthol) as active ingredients, combined in a topical gel/cream/liniment base. Strength and exact concentration may vary by brand and formulation.

Glustin Plus is a fixed-dose topical combination marketed for joint and muscle care. Glucosamine and chondroitin are naturally-occurring substances found in and around cartilage that are commonly used, mainly by the oral route, as adjuncts in the management of osteoarthritis; here they are formulated into a topical preparation. Camphor and peppermint oil are well-established topical counter-irritants (external analgesics) that stimulate sensory nerve endings in the skin, producing a cooling sensation followed by a mild warming feeling that distracts from and helps reduce the perception of deeper musculoskeletal pain. Glustin Plus is applied directly to the skin over the affected joint or muscle and is intended for external use only.

Glustin Plus belongs to the therapeutic class of Topical Analgesics / Counter-irritants (Rubefacients), used for symptomatic relief of musculoskeletal pain.

The pharmacological action of Glucosamine + Chondroitin + Camphor + Peppermint oil is primarily due to its counter-irritant components:

• Camphor acts on transient receptor potential (TRP) channels (including TRPV1, TRPV3, and TRPA1) in cutaneous sensory nerves, producing an initial cooling sensation followed by a warming, mildly analgesic effect that helps distract from deeper pain signals.
• Peppermint oil (menthol) activates TRPM8 cold-sensitive receptors in the skin, producing a cooling sensation and mild local analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
• Glucosamine and Chondroitin are structural components of cartilage; they are proposed to support local cartilage and connective tissue health, although clinical evidence for topical absorption and systemic joint benefit is more limited than for oral formulations.

Together these components provide temporary local relief of musculoskeletal pain without significant systemic pharmacologic effect.

Glustin Plus should be applied externally to clean, dry, intact skin over the affected area only. Gently massage into the skin until absorbed. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, and open wounds. Do not cover the application site with an airtight or occlusive dressing, and do not use with a heating pad.

No clinically significant systemic drug interactions have been well established for topically applied Glustin Plus when used as directed, since systemic absorption through intact skin is minimal.

• Avoid concurrent use with other topical products containing camphor, menthol, or other counter-irritants (e.g., methyl salicylate) on the same skin area, as this may increase the risk of local skin irritation or, rarely, additive toxicity if absorption is increased.
• Avoid use with heating devices or heating pads, as this can increase absorption and the risk of skin burns.

Applied as directed, Glustin Plus is generally well tolerated. Reported side effects are mostly local and include:

• Local skin irritation, redness, or burning sensation at the application site
• Contact dermatitis or allergic skin reaction
• Excessive warming or cooling sensation
• Rarely, skin blistering, especially if used with occlusive dressings or heat

Discontinue use and consult a physician if severe irritation, rash, or blistering develops.

There are limited data on the use of Glustin Plus during pregnancy and lactation. Although systemic absorption through intact skin is expected to be minimal when used as directed, Glustin Plus should be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed, over a limited area, and after consulting a physician, as potential benefit should be weighed against any potential risk.

Glustin Plus is for external use only. Observe the following precautions:

• Avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes, and broken or irritated skin.
• Do not apply with a heating pad or other external heat source, as this increases the risk of chemical burns.
• Do not bandage tightly or use an occlusive dressing over the application site.
• Keep out of reach of children; camphor-containing products can be highly toxic if swallowed, even in small amounts.
• Discontinue use and seek medical advice if excessive skin irritation, redness, or a rash develops, or if symptoms of the underlying condition persist or worsen.
• Wash hands after use unless the hands are the area being treated.

Topical overapplication of Glustin Plus may cause excessive local skin irritation or burning. Accidental ingestion, particularly by children, is a medical emergency: camphor is toxic if swallowed and can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, muscle twitching, and seizures. If Glustin Plus is accidentally swallowed or if signs of toxicity occur after topical use, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center/emergency services without delay.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.

Elderly: No specific dose adjustment is generally required for Glustin Plus in elderly patients, though skin may be more sensitive to irritation; use with care.

Renal/Hepatic impairment: Because systemic absorption of Glustin Plus through intact skin is minimal, specific dose adjustment is not usually required; however, caution and physician consultation is advised in patients with significant hepatic or renal impairment.

Glustin Plus is intended for short-term, symptomatic use. If pain persists beyond 7 days, worsens, or is accompanied by fever, swelling, or redness, discontinue use and consult a physician, as this may indicate a condition requiring further medical evaluation.
