GM-KIT

GM-KIT is a topical antifungal cleansing bar (medicated soap) used as an adjunctive treatment for superficial fungal skin and scalp infections caused by susceptible organisms, primarily dermatophytes and Malassezia yeast species.

Established/guideline-supported uses

• Adjunctive cleansing treatment for tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor), a superficial yeast infection caused by Malassezia furfur.
• Adjunctive treatment for seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff of the scalp and skin associated with Malassezia overgrowth.
• Adjunctive cleansing for superficial dermatophyte (tinea) infections of the skin, such as tinea corporis, tinea cruris, and tinea pedis, when used alongside a primary antifungal treatment prescribed by a physician.

Adjunct-only use

GM-KIT is intended as a supportive cleansing measure and is not a substitute for prescription oral or topical antifungal therapy in moderate-to-severe or extensive infections; it should be used as directed by a physician alongside, not instead of, definitive antifungal treatment when indicated.

Each bar of Ketoconnazole Bar contains Ketoconazole USP 2% w/w in a soap/cleansing bar base, along with standard saponified excipients (fatty-acid soap base, moisturizers, and preservatives) that support skin-friendly cleansing.

GM-KIT is a medicated topical cleansing bar formulated with ketoconazole, a broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal agent, at approximately 2% concentration. It is designed for external use on the skin and scalp to help cleanse areas affected by superficial fungal infections while providing direct antifungal contact during washing.

Unlike creams or shampoos left on the skin for extended periods, GM-KIT is a rinse-off product used during regular bathing, making it a convenient adjunct for patients being treated for recurrent or widespread superficial mycoses.

Ketoconnazole Bar contains ketoconazole, a synthetic imidazole antifungal. Ketoconazole acts by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, which is required for conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, the principal sterol of the fungal cell membrane.

Depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of abnormal sterol precursors disrupts fungal cell membrane structure and function, increasing membrane permeability, inhibiting fungal cell growth, and ultimately leading to fungal cell death.

Ketoconnazole Bar is active against dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton species) and yeasts, including Malassezia furfur and Candida species, when applied topically during cleansing.

For external (topical) use only. Wet the skin or scalp, rub GM-KIT to create a lather over the affected area, avoiding the eyes and mucous membranes, leave in place for several minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Pat skin dry afterward. Do not use on open wounds or broken skin unless directed by a physician.

GM-KIT is applied topically with minimal systemic absorption, so clinically significant drug-drug interactions are uncommon with normal use.

• Concurrent use of other irritant topical products (e.g., strong exfoliants, other medicated soaps, or high-concentration topical retinoids) on the same skin area may increase the risk of local irritation.
• If used extensively over large body surface areas or on broken skin, systemic absorption may theoretically increase; consult a physician before combining with other systemic azole antifungals or CYP3A4-dependent medications in such circumstances.

GM-KIT is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Reported side effects include:

• Local skin irritation, redness, or stinging at the site of application
• Itching or burning sensation
• Dryness or mild peeling of the skin
• Contact dermatitis or allergic skin reaction (uncommon)
• Changes in hair texture with prolonged scalp use (rare)

Discontinue use and consult a physician if irritation, rash, or signs of an allergic reaction (swelling, severe redness, blistering) occur.

GM-KIT is applied topically with minimal systemic absorption. Available data suggest low risk to the fetus with topical use; however, as with any medication, it should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk. Consult a physician before use during pregnancy.

It is not known whether topically applied ketoconazole is excreted in breast milk in clinically significant amounts. Caution is advised, and breastfeeding mothers should avoid applying GM-KIT directly to the breast/nipple area, or consult a physician before use.

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Discontinue use and consult a physician if irritation, burning, or signs of sensitization develop. Do not apply to open wounds or severely broken skin unless directed by a physician.

Complete the full recommended course of use even if symptoms improve early, as stopping too soon may increase the risk of recurrence. Take exactly as prescribed by your physician; do not stop, extend, skip uses, or share this medicine with others without medical advice.

If symptoms do not improve within the expected timeframe, or worsen, consult a physician, as an alternative diagnosis or treatment may be needed.

GM-KIT is intended for external use only; topical overdose is unlikely with normal use but may cause increased local irritation, redness, or peeling if used excessively. If accidentally ingested, or if significant unintended skin/eye exposure occurs, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center/emergency services rather than attempting home treatment.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Pediatric use: Safety and efficacy of GM-KIT in young children have not been well established; use in children should be under the guidance and supervision of a physician.

Elderly: No specific dose adjustment is generally required for topical use in elderly patients; use as directed.

Renal/hepatic impairment: Because systemic absorption from topical use is minimal, specific dose adjustment is generally not required; however, patients with significant hepatic impairment should consult a physician before use.

Duration varies by indication: typically 5-7 days for tinea versicolor, and ongoing intermittent use (2-3 times weekly) for seborrheic dermatitis/dandruff maintenance, or as otherwise directed by a physician. Complete the full recommended course even if symptoms improve early.

Ketoconnazole Bar works by inhibiting fungal 14-alpha-demethylase, blocking ergosterol synthesis in the fungal cell membrane. This weakens the membrane's structural integrity, increases its permeability, and ultimately inhibits fungal growth or causes fungal cell death.

The safety and efficacy of GM-KIT in infants and young children have not been well established. Use in pediatric patients should occur only under the direction and supervision of a physician, who will weigh the potential benefits against the limited safety data in this age group.
