Hi-C 100 ml is a water-soluble vitamin and essential nutrient prescribed for the prevention and treatment of vitamin C deficiency, as well as a range of conditions where the body's requirement is increased. It is indicated in the following:
Hi-C 100 ml is also widely used as a daily dietary supplement to maintain overall health, particularly in individuals with poor dietary intake, increased physiological demand, smokers, and those recovering from illness or surgery.
Always take medicines according to the advice of a registered physician.
Hi-C 100 ml belongs to the therapeutic class of Vitamin-C Preparations.
Ascorbic Acid is an essential water-soluble vitamin that the human body cannot synthesize on its own; it must therefore be obtained through diet or supplementation. Once absorbed, it participates in numerous physiological processes vital for growth, repair and overall health.
Vitamin C is required for tissue growth and repair, normal adrenal gland function, healthy gums, and the maintenance of a robust immune system. As a powerful antioxidant, it neutralizes harmful free radicals and offers protection against oxidative stress caused by pollution and infection, thereby reducing cellular damage.
Acting as an essential coenzyme, ascorbic acid is a necessary factor in the biosynthesis of collagen, wound healing, drug metabolism, and the metabolism of cholesterol and folic acid. It also enhances the absorption of non-heme iron in the intestine, supporting the formation of hemoglobin and red blood cells.
As a key nutrient, Vitamin C supports healthy skin and hair, strengthens immunity and contributes to overall well-being. Being water-soluble, excess amounts are largely excreted in the urine, and the body maintains no significant long-term stores, making regular intake important.
1 sachet daily or as directed by a registered physician. The maximum dose is 2000 mg per day (up to 4 sachets daily).
Hi-C 100 ml is usually administered orally. When oral administration is not feasible or when malabsorption is suspected, it may be given by the intramuscular (IM), intravenous (IV), or subcutaneous route. Utilization of the vitamin is reportedly best after IM administration, which is the preferred parenteral route.
Always take medicines according to the advice of a registered physician.
Ascorbic acid is chemically incompatible in solution with the following agents, and should not be mixed with them:
Ascorbic acid increases the apparent half-life of paracetamol and enhances the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, making it a useful adjunct in the management of iron-deficiency states.
Hi-C 100 ml is generally well tolerated, but high-dose or mega-dose therapy should be avoided or used with caution in certain patients. It is contraindicated in individuals with:
Hi-C 100 ml has very low toxicity and is generally well tolerated at normal doses. Adverse effects are uncommon and are mostly associated with mega-doses. Reported side effects include:
Most of these effects resolve on reducing the dose. Patients should seek medical advice if any troublesome or persistent symptoms occur.
Pregnancy: Hi-C 100 ml is considered safe when taken at normal recommended doses during pregnancy. However, a daily intake of 5 g or more has been reported to cause abortion and should be strictly avoided. Regular mega-dosing during pregnancy has also been linked to rebound scurvy in newborns.
Lactation: Ascorbic Acid may be taken safely during breastfeeding at normal doses. As with any supplement, pregnant and lactating women should use Vitamin C only under the guidance of a registered physician and avoid excessive intake.
The following precautions should be observed when using Hi-C 100 ml:
Because Hi-C 100 ml is water-soluble, excess amounts are usually excreted in the urine, and serious toxicity from overdose is rare. However, ingestion of very large doses (mega-doses) may lead to:
Management of overdose is generally supportive, including discontinuation of the supplement, adequate hydration and symptomatic treatment. In case of a suspected significant overdose, medical advice should be sought promptly.
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light, at a temperature below 30°C. Keep the container tightly closed. Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
Elderly: Vitamin C is well tolerated in older adults and may be used at 1–2 tablets daily, including for reduction of stroke risk. Dietary intake is often inadequate in this group, making supplementation beneficial.
Children: Ascorbic Acid is used for the prevention and treatment of scurvy in children, with the dose adjusted according to age, body weight and the severity of deficiency, as directed by a physician. Syrup and chewable formulations are suitable for paediatric use.
Patients with G6PD deficiency: High doses should be avoided due to the risk of haemolysis.
Patients with renal impairment or kidney stones: High-dose Vitamin C should be used with caution because of the risk of oxalate stone formation and hyperoxaluria.
Patients with iron-overload disorders: Those with thalassaemia, haemochromatosis or sideroblastic anemia should avoid mega-doses due to enhanced iron absorption.
