Indications of PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff

PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff is indicated for the treatment and prevention of bronchospasm in adults, adolescents & children of 6 years of age and older with reversible obstructive airway diseases.

Theropeutic Class

Short-acting selective & β2-adrenoceptor stimulants

Pharmacology

PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff is a single isomer beta-2 agonist that differs from racemic salbutamol by elimination of (S)-salbutamol. PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff is an effective bronchodilator whose primary mechanism of action is not inhibited by (S)-salbutamol.Thus, when compared with racemic salbutamol, clinically comparable bronchodilation can be achieved. PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff produces bronchodilatation through stimulation of beta-2-adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscles, thereby causing relaxation of bronchial muscle fibres.

Dosage & Administration of PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff

Children (6 -11 years): 5 ml (1 mg), three times daily.Adults and adolescents above 12 years: 5-10 ml (1-2 mg), three times daily.

Interaction of PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff

Other short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilators or epinephrine should be used with caution with PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff. If additional adrenergic drugs are to be administered by any route, they should be used with caution to avoid deleterious cardiovascular effects.

Contraindications

PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff or any of its components.

Side Effects of PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff

Hypocalcaemia, palpitation, fine tremors of the skeletal muscle and muscle cramps may occur. The other likely side effects are nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain and diarrhoea.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The drug should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk of the fetus. It is not known whether PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when oral PulmoCare-L 50 mcg/puff is administered to a nursing woman.
