Risomax 1 mg is an atypical antipsychotic medicine prescribed for the management of a range of psychiatric conditions. Risomax 1 mg is indicated for the treatment of:
* Always take this medication as directed by a registered physician.
Risomax 1 mg belongs to the class of atypical neuroleptic (antipsychotic) drugs.
Risomax 1 mg is a selective monoaminergic antagonist with a high affinity for serotonergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors. It also binds to alpha1-adrenergic receptors and, with lower affinity, to H1 histaminergic and alpha2-adrenergic receptors. Risomax 1 mg has no affinity for cholinergic receptors.
As a potent D2 antagonist, Risomax 1 mg improves the positive symptoms of schizophrenia (such as hallucinations and delusions) while causing comparatively less suppression of motor activity than conventional antipsychotics. Its balanced antagonism of central serotonin and dopamine is thought to reduce the likelihood of extrapyramidal side effects and to extend therapeutic benefit to the negative and affective symptoms of schizophrenia, such as blunted emotion, social withdrawal, and depressed mood.
The dose of Risomax 1 mg should be individualised according to the patient's condition, age, and tolerance. The following are general guidelines; the exact regimen must be determined by a qualified physician.
* Always take this medication as directed by a registered physician.

Consult your doctor if any side effect becomes severe, persistent, or troublesome.
Pregnancy: In experimental animals, Risomax 1 mg did not show direct reproductive toxicity, though some indirect, prolactin- and CNS-mediated effects were observed. No teratogenic (birth-defect-causing) effect was noted in any study. However, the safety of Risomax 1 mg during human pregnancy has not been established, so it should be used only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.
Lactation: In animal studies, Risomax 1 mg and its active metabolite 9-hydroxyRisomax 1 mg are excreted in milk, and both have also been demonstrated to be excreted in human breast milk. Therefore, women receiving Risomax 1 mg should not breastfeed.
Special caution is required when using Risomax 1 mg in the following situations:
Patients and caregivers should be advised to report any unusual movements, mood changes, or other concerning symptoms to a physician promptly.
Drowsiness, sedation, tachycardia, hypotension, and extrapyramidal symptoms may occur. In case of severe extrapyramidal symptoms, anticholinergic medication should be administered. Close medical supervision and monitoring should continue until the patient recovers. There is no specific antidote to Risomax 1 mg.
