About Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin

Indications of Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin

Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin is a topical triple-combination preparation used for short-term treatment of inflamed skin conditions where infection with susceptible bacteria and/or Candida is present, confirmed, or strongly suspected.

  • Established uses: Recalcitrant/severe eczema and localized psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis) that has not responded to less potent corticosteroids, when secondary bacterial and/or candidal infection is present.
  • Guideline/label-supported use: Neurodermatitis (lichen simplex chronicus) and other steroid-responsive dermatoses complicated by infection.
  • Adjunct use: As short-term adjunct therapy in intertriginous or inflamed dermatoses with mixed bacterial-fungal colonization; not a substitute for systemic therapy in extensive infection.

Because Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin combines a very potent corticosteroid with two anti-infectives, it is intended only for short, physician-directed courses, not for long-term or maintenance use.

Frequently Asked Questions about Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin

What is Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin used for?

Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin is used for short-term treatment of severe, steroid-responsive skin conditions such as eczema and localized psoriasis when bacterial and/or fungal (Candida) infection is present or suspected.

How long can I use this medicine?

Generally, Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin should not be used for more than 7 days without medical review, and continuous use should not exceed about 2 weeks (maximum around 4 weeks under close physician supervision), because it contains a very potent corticosteroid that can cause skin thinning and hormonal side effects with prolonged use.

Can I use it on my face or in skin folds?

No. Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin should generally be avoided on the face, groin, and armpits, and should not be used under occlusive dressings or diapers, unless your physician specifically directs otherwise, because absorption is much higher at these sites and the risk of skin thinning and systemic side effects increases.

Is it safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin has not been well studied in pregnancy or breastfeeding. It should be used only if clearly needed and if your physician judges the benefit outweighs the potential risk to the baby, at the lowest effective amount for the shortest time; consult your physician before use.

What side effects should I watch for?

Common side effects of Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin include burning, stinging, itching, thinning of the skin, and visible small blood vessels at the application site. Stop use and see a physician if you notice worsening rash, signs of allergic reaction, or stretch marks.

Can I stop using it as soon as my skin looks better?

Do not stop Clobetasol Propionate + Neomycin Sulphate + Nystatin abruptly after prolonged use without medical advice, as this can cause a rebound flare of your skin condition. Always use it exactly as prescribed by your physician, and do not stop, extend, or share this medicine with others without medical advice.
