Methyl Salicylate + Menthol is a topical (skin-applied) analgesic and counterirritant combination used for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains.
Methyl Salicylate + Menthol is intended only for temporary, symptomatic relief of minor, self-limited musculoskeletal pain. It is not indicated for severe pain, pain of unknown cause, or pain lasting longer than 7 days without medical evaluation.
| Indication | Adult dose |
|---|---|
| Minor muscle/joint pain (backache, arthritis pain, strains, sprains, bruises) | Apply a thin layer of Methyl Salicylate + Menthol to the affected area, gently massaging in until absorbed. Repeat no more than 3-4 times per day, or as directed on the specific product label. |
| Medicated patch/plaster form | Apply one patch to the affected area; leave in place for the duration stated on the product label (commonly up to 8-12 hours), then remove. Do not apply a new patch immediately to the same site without the label-directed interval. |
Use in children should only be under adult supervision and, for children under 12 years, only on the advice of a physician; many Methyl Salicylate + Menthol products are not recommended for children under 2 years of age. See Use in Special Populations and Precautions and Warnings for the ingestion-toxicity risk that makes careful supervision essential.
No well-established dose adjustment is defined for topical Methyl Salicylate + Menthol, as systemic exposure is normally minimal with correct use; however, patients with significant renal or hepatic impairment should use Methyl Salicylate + Menthol cautiously and only over limited skin areas, since any systemic salicylate absorbed is renally cleared and hepatically metabolized.
Most side effects of Methyl Salicylate + Menthol are local reactions at the application site. Systemic side effects are rare with correct, limited use but can occur with excessive or prolonged application.
Discontinue Methyl Salicylate + Menthol and consult a physician if severe irritation, rash, or signs of allergic reaction develop.

Methyl Salicylate + Menthol is for external use only and must not be swallowed under any circumstance (see Precautions and Warnings and Overdose for the serious toxicity risk of ingestion).
