| Population | Primary Series | Interval Between Doses | Booster |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adults and children ≥ 1 year (endemic exposure/outbreak setting) | 2 oral doses | Usually 14 days apart (acceptable range approximately 7 days to 6 weeks per local guidance) | Repeat dose recommended after 2 years for individuals with continued high-risk exposure, per current guidelines |
| Adult travelers (single-dose live-attenuated formulations, where available) | 1 oral dose | Not applicable | Data on repeat dosing limited; consult current product labeling |
| Children 1 to < 2 years | 2 oral doses (may require dilution with additional water/buffer per formulation) | 14 days apart | As per adult schedule where established |
The complete multi-dose primary series of Oral Cholera Vaccine must be finished for optimal protection; a single dose of a two-dose regimen provides only partial, short-term protection.
Most reported reactions to Oral Cholera Vaccine are mild and self-limited.
Patients should seek medical attention for severe abdominal pain, high fever, signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the face/throat, difficulty breathing, widespread rash), or symptoms that are severe or persistent after receiving Oral Cholera Vaccine.
