• Relief of dry eye symptoms: Aquafresh Liquigel PF ophthalmic solution is indicated for the temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort due to dryness of the eye, and for use as a protectant against further irritation.
• Ocular lubricant: Aquafresh Liquigel PF is used as a lubricant for the relief of dryness associated with exposure to wind or sun, and to help prevent further irritation from occurring.
• Contact lens wear: Aquafresh Liquigel PF eye drops may be used to relieve dryness and discomfort associated with contact lens wear, and some formulations are specifically indicated for use as a rewetting/lubricating drop for both soft and rigid gas-permeable lenses.

Aquafresh Liquigel PF is an over-the-counter artificial tear product; it does not treat the underlying cause of dry eye and is intended for symptomatic relief only. Persistent or worsening symptoms should be evaluated by a physician.

Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium ophthalmic solution is available in various strengths depending on the manufacturer and product line, commonly ranging from about 0.25% to 1% (e.g., 0.5%, 1%) Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium, formulated as sterile eye drops with or without preservative (preservative-free single-use vials are also available). Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium is a hydrophilic, high-molecular-weight cellulose polymer that, when applied topically to the eye, increases the viscosity of the tear film and adheres to the ocular surface (mucin layer of the cornea and conjunctiva), prolonging its residence time compared with a simple saline solution. This viscosity-enhancing and mucoadhesive action helps to stabilize the pre-corneal tear film, reduce tear evaporation, and provide a protective, lubricating layer that relieves the burning, stinging, and foreign-body sensation associated with dry eye. Aquafresh Liquigel PF is for topical ophthalmic (eye) use only and must not be injected or taken by mouth. To administer: wash hands, tilt the head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops without letting the tip of the container touch the eye, eyelid, fingers, or any other surface, to avoid contamination. If wearing contact lenses, follow the specific product instructions regarding whether lenses should be removed before instillation. If using more than one topical eye medication, wait at least 5-10 minutes between different products to avoid one washing out the other.

Because Aquafresh Liquigel PF ophthalmic solution acts locally on the ocular surface with negligible systemic absorption, clinically significant systemic drug interactions have not been established. The main interaction of practical relevance is local: if Aquafresh Liquigel PF is instilled at the same time as another topical ophthalmic medication, it may dilute or wash out the other product, reducing its effectiveness. Common

Less Common

• Eye discomfort, foreign-body sensation, or matting/crusting of the eyelids
• Local hypersensitivity reactions (redness, itching, swelling of the eyelid) in sensitive individuals, particularly with preserved formulations

Aquafresh Liquigel PF ophthalmic solution is generally very well tolerated overall, reflecting its favorable local safety profile as an over-the-counter lubricant. Persistent eye pain, marked redness, vision changes, or worsening irritation should prompt discontinuation and medical evaluation.

Aquafresh Liquigel PF ophthalmic solution has not been specifically studied in controlled trials in pregnant or breastfeeding women; however, because it is applied topically to the eye and has negligible systemic absorption, the risk of harm to the fetus or nursing infant is considered very low. As with any medication, Aquafresh Liquigel PF should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly needed, and a physician should be consulted if there is any uncertainty, particularly if a preserved formulation is used or if the product contains additional active ingredients.

Topical/ophthalmic use only: Aquafresh Liquigel PF eye drops are for external use in the eye only and should never be injected or swallowed.

Avoid contamination: Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye, eyelid, fingers, or any surface, as this may contaminate the solution and lead to eye infection. Discard any solution that has changed color or become cloudy.

Contact lens wearers: Contact lens wearers should follow the specific product instructions, as some formulations should not be instilled while lenses are in place, or require lens removal beforehand; consult the product label or an eye care professional.

When to seek medical care: If eye pain, changes in vision, continued redness or irritation of the eye, or if the condition worsens or persists for more than 72 hours, discontinue use and consult a physician rather than continuing self-treatment, as this may indicate a condition requiring specific medical evaluation.

Preservative sensitivity: Patients sensitive to preservatives (e.g., benzalkonium chloride) in multi-dose formulations should consider preservative-free, single-use preparations of Aquafresh Liquigel PF if irritation occurs.

Ocular overdose with Aquafresh Liquigel PF is unlikely to cause serious harm given its local mechanism and negligible systemic absorption; instilling more drops than recommended may simply cause temporary blurred vision or mild ocular irritation, which typically resolves without specific treatment. Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Renal impairment: No dose adjustment is required, as Aquafresh Liquigel PF eye drops act locally with negligible systemic absorption.

Hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is required for the same reason.

Elderly: Aquafresh Liquigel PF may be used in elderly patients without specific dose adjustment; this population commonly experiences dry eye and may benefit from regular use as directed.

Aquafresh Liquigel PF may be used on an as-needed, ongoing basis for chronic dry eye symptom relief, or intermittently for occasional dryness/irritation (e.g., related to wind, sun, screen use, or contact lens wear). If symptoms do not improve, worsen, or persist beyond 72 hours of regular use, discontinue and consult a physician, as an underlying condition may require specific evaluation and treatment beyond simple lubrication.
