Emolent Plus is a topical emollient (skin protectant/moisturizer) indicated for:

• Established use: Symptomatic relief of dry, rough, or flaky skin conditions, including dry skin associated with eczema, dermatitis, ichthyosis, and general xerosis (dry skin).
• Established use: As a skin barrier protectant to reduce water loss from the skin and restore the skin's natural barrier function.
• Adjunct use: As an emollient adjunct alongside prescribed topical steroids or other dermatological therapy in chronic dry skin conditions, to soothe and soften the skin between applications of active treatment.
• General/cosmetic use: Everyday moisturizing of normal-to-dry skin, and protection of skin exposed to harsh environmental conditions (wind, cold, frequent washing).

This is an over-the-counter topical product; it is not intended to treat the underlying cause of a skin disease and does not replace prescribed medical treatment when one is required.

Each formulation of Light Liquid Paraffin + White Soft Paraffin + Glycerine typically combines Liquid Paraffin (Light) as an emollient oil, White Soft Paraffin (white petrolatum) as an occlusive base, and Glycerine (glycerol) as a humectant, compounded into a topical cream, lotion, or ointment base.

Emolent Plus is a topical combination product containing two occlusive/emollient paraffin-derived ingredients and a humectant. It works by forming a protective, semi-occlusive film on the skin surface that reduces trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), while the humectant component draws and holds moisture within the outer skin layer.

It is available as a cream, lotion, or ointment for external application and is widely used as a first-line, non-prescription option for maintaining skin hydration in dry-skin conditions.

Emolent Plus belongs to the therapeutic class of Emollients and Skin Protectants (topical barrier-repair moisturizers).

Light Liquid Paraffin + White Soft Paraffin + Glycerine acts entirely at the skin surface through physical/physicochemical mechanisms rather than pharmacologic receptor activity:

• Liquid Paraffin provides emollient, lubricating action by spreading over the skin surface and softening the stratum corneum.
• White Soft Paraffin forms an occlusive layer that significantly reduces trans-epidermal water loss, allowing the skin's own moisture to be retained.
• Glycerine is a humectant that attracts and binds water from the environment and deeper skin layers into the stratum corneum, improving skin hydration and elasticity.

Together these actions restore the skin's barrier function, reduce roughness and scaling, and relieve the itching and discomfort associated with dry skin. Systemic absorption through intact skin is minimal to negligible given the physical (barrier-repair) mechanism of action.

Emolent Plus is for external topical use only. Apply to clean, dry (or slightly damp) skin and massage in gently until absorbed. Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or mucous membranes unless directed by a physician.

No clinically significant systemic drug interactions have been established for Emolent Plus, owing to its topical action and minimal systemic absorption.

• When other topical medications (e.g., topical corticosteroids or antibiotics) are applied to the same area, allow the other product to be absorbed first and apply Emolent Plus afterward, or as advised by a physician, to avoid diluting or physically blocking absorption of the active medication.
• The paraffin content may reduce the effectiveness of latex products (e.g., condoms, diaphragms) through direct contact by weakening the latex.

Emolent Plus is generally very well tolerated, with a low incidence of side effects due to minimal systemic absorption. Reported effects are mostly local and include:

• Mild transient stinging, itching, or redness at the site of application, particularly on broken or inflamed skin.
• Folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles) with prolonged occlusive use in some individuals.
• Rare allergic contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity reactions to a component of the formulation.
• A greasy or oily skin feel, which is expected with paraffin-based occlusive products.

Discontinue use and seek medical advice if signs of an allergic reaction or worsening skin irritation occur.

Emolent Plus is a topical emollient with negligible systemic absorption and is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding when used as directed on intact skin. As with any topical product, it should be used only if clearly needed, avoiding application to the nipple/areola area shortly before breastfeeding unless advised by a physician; consult a physician if there is any concern.

• For external use only — not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.
• Fire hazard: Emolent Plus contains paraffin-based ingredients that can soak into clothing, dressings, and bedding; fabric soaked with paraffin-based emollients is easily ignited by naked flames or smoking materials. Do not smoke, use naked flames, or go near sources of ignition while wearing clothing, bandages, or dressings that have been in contact with this product, and change clothing/bedding regularly. This risk is particularly important for patients using supplemental home oxygen.
• Avoid contact with the eyes; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Avoid application to mucous membranes.
• Do not apply to infected, broken, or severely inflamed skin without medical advice.
• May make bath, shower, or floor surfaces slippery; take care to avoid falls.
• May stain or damage certain fabrics if used in excess.

Emolent Plus is intended for topical use and overdose in the conventional sense is unlikely. If accidentally ingested in significant quantity or if a severe allergic/irritant reaction occurs after application, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center/emergency services rather than attempting home treatment.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Pediatric: Emolent Plus may be used in children and infants as a general skin moisturizer; use in neonates or for widespread application should be guided by a physician.

Elderly: No special precautions beyond standard use are required; elderly patients with fragile or very dry skin may benefit from regular application.

Renal/Hepatic impairment: Not applicable, as systemic absorption is negligible with topical use.

Emolent Plus may be used for as long as needed to manage dry skin; it is commonly used as an ongoing, regular part of skin care for chronic dry-skin conditions rather than for a fixed treatment course. If skin condition does not improve or worsens after 1-2 weeks of regular use, consult a physician.
