Germlock is a topical antiseptic combination used for external disinfection of the skin and hands. Its use is supported by long-standing over-the-counter (OTC) antiseptic monographs and clinical practice for the following indications:

• Established/OTC-monograph use: Hand hygiene and hand sanitization to reduce bacteria on the skin when soap and water are not readily available.
• Established/OTC-monograph use: Pre-injection and pre-procedural skin antisepsis, i.e., disinfecting the skin surface before an injection, venipuncture, or minor invasive procedure.
• General use: Antisepsis of intact skin and surfaces to reduce the risk of cross-contamination in clinical, community, and household settings.

Germlock is not intended for internal use, for disinfecting mucous membranes, or as a substitute for surgical hand scrub unless the specific product is labeled for that purpose.

Ethanol + Isopropyl alcohol combines two antiseptic alcohols — ethanol (ethyl alcohol) and isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) — typically formulated together at a total alcohol concentration of approximately 60% to 95% v/v in an aqueous or gel base, often with emollients such as glycerin to reduce skin dryness. Because Ethanol + Isopropyl alcohol acts on the cell surface rather than through systemic absorption, it has a rapid onset of antiseptic action but no persistent (residual) antimicrobial activity once it evaporates, and negligible systemic pharmacologic effect when used as directed on intact skin.

For external (topical) use only. Apply Germlock directly to intact skin or via a sterile swab; do not swallow, inject, intentionally inhale concentrated vapors, or apply to open wounds, mucous membranes, or eyes. Allow to air-dry fully before further activity, especially before any procedure involving heat or electrical equipment.

Germlock is applied topically and is not associated with clinically significant systemic drug interactions when used as directed for hand hygiene or skin antisepsis, because systemic absorption through intact skin is minimal.

• Concurrent use with other skin products (e.g., benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, or other antiseptics) on the same site may increase local skin dryness or irritation; space applications apart if this occurs.
• Germlock is flammable; do not use near or combine with other flammable substances or ignition sources.

When used as directed on intact skin, Germlock is generally well tolerated. Reported side effects include:

• Common: Local skin dryness, mild stinging or burning sensation on application, and skin irritation with frequent or prolonged use.
• Less common: Contact dermatitis (redness, itching, scaling) with repeated exposure.
• Rare: Allergic contact reactions or hypersensitivity reactions (rash, hives) in sensitized individuals.

Discontinue Germlock and seek medical advice if irritation persists or worsens.

However, formal safety studies in pregnant or breastfeeding women are limited.

As a general precaution, Germlock should be used during pregnancy and lactation only as needed and as directed, avoiding application to the breast area before breastfeeding, and a physician should be consulted if there are specific concerns.

Germlock is for external use only. Observe the following precautions:

• Flammable: Germlock is flammable. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flame, and electrical equipment until completely dry.
• Avoid broken skin/mucous membranes/eyes: Do not apply to open wounds, broken or denuded skin, mucous membranes, or the eyes; if accidental contact with the eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
• Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area; avoid prolonged inhalation of concentrated vapors in enclosed spaces.
• Accidental ingestion risk in children: Germlock can cause alcohol poisoning if swallowed. Keep out of reach of children and store securely; supervise use in and around young children.
• External use only: Not for internal use, injection, or use as a substitute for surgical antisepsis unless the product is specifically labeled for that purpose.
• Discontinue use if excessive irritation, redness, or signs of an allergic reaction develop, and consult a physician.

Overdose of Germlock typically occurs through accidental or intentional ingestion rather than topical over-application, and is a recognized poisoning risk, especially in young children.

Signs of ingestion/overdose may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, confusion, incoordination, low blood pressure, slowed breathing, and, in severe cases, loss of consciousness.

If ingestion of Germlock is suspected, or if signs of toxicity appear after any exposure, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center/emergency services right away. Do not attempt to induce vomiting unless instructed by a medical professional.

Store Germlock at room temperature (below 30°C), away from heat, direct sunlight, and open flame, in a tightly closed container. Keep out of reach of children.

Pediatric: Germlock should be used with adult supervision in children; accidental ingestion is a recognized poisoning risk and use in very young children may not be established for unsupervised use — check the specific product label. Keep out of reach of children at all times.

Elderly: No specific dose adjustment is required for topical use; elderly patients with thin or fragile skin may be more prone to dryness or irritation with frequent use.

Hepatic/renal impairment: Not clinically relevant for external, topical use of Germlock, since systemic absorption is minimal; caution is warranted only in the event of accidental ingestion.

Individuals with alcohol use disorder or G6PD deficiency: Topical use is generally acceptable, but ingestion must be strictly avoided.

Germlock is intended for as-needed, short-duration use each time hand hygiene or skin antisepsis is required (a few seconds to about 30 seconds of contact/air-drying time per application); it is not intended for continuous or prolonged occlusive application.
