Laxadil-Senna is indicated for the short-term relief of occasional constipation and for the management of irregular bowel habit, including constipation associated with a low-fiber diet, reduced physical activity, or use of constipating medications.

• Established use: Symptomatic relief of simple/occasional constipation in adults.
• Adjunct use: As part of bowel management in patients who have not responded adequately to bulk-forming laxatives alone, where the addition of a stimulant component is considered appropriate by a physician.
• Guideline-supported use: Short-term bowel evacuation support in functional constipation when dietary fiber and lifestyle measures are insufficient.

It is not intended for long-term or chronic daily use without medical supervision; chronic constipation should be evaluated by a physician to exclude an underlying cause.

Each dose of Ispaghula Husk [Psyllium] + Senna Extract combines the husk of Plantago ovata seeds (ispaghula/psyllium), a natural soluble fiber bulk-forming agent, with a standardized extract of Senna (sennosides), a plant-derived stimulant laxative. Strength and exact composition may vary by brand and formulation (granules, powder for oral suspension, or sachet); refer to the product label for the specific quantity per dose.

Laxadil-Senna is a combination laxative product that provides two complementary mechanisms of bowel action: the bulk-forming effect of psyllium husk and the stimulant effect of senna. Psyllium absorbs water in the intestine to form a gel-like bulk that softens stool and promotes peristalsis, while senna's sennoside glycosides are metabolized by colonic bacteria into active compounds that directly stimulate colonic motility and fluid secretion. Together they offer a faster and more reliable laxative effect than either agent alone, making Laxadil-Senna useful for occasional constipation that has not responded to bulk-forming agents by themselves.

Ispaghula Husk [Psyllium] + Senna Extract works through two distinct and complementary mechanisms:

• Psyllium (bulk-forming component): The husk swells on contact with water in the gastrointestinal tract, forming a viscous, hydrophilic gel that increases stool bulk and softness, mechanically stimulating peristalsis through distension of the bowel wall. Onset of action is typically 12 to 72 hours.
• Senna (stimulant component): Sennosides are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and reach the colon largely intact, where colonic bacteria hydrolyze them into active anthrone derivatives. These directly stimulate colonic smooth muscle (increasing motility) and alter fluid and electrolyte transport to increase net secretion of water into the bowel lumen. Onset of action is typically 6 to 12 hours.

The combination in Ispaghula Husk [Psyllium] + Senna Extract is designed to give more predictable and often faster relief than either bulk-forming or stimulant laxatives used alone.

Mix the granules/powder of Laxadil-Senna thoroughly in a full glass of water or another suitable liquid and drink immediately, followed by an additional glass of fluid. Do not take immediately before lying down. Maintain adequate overall fluid intake throughout the day while using this product, as insufficient fluid intake with the psyllium component may cause choking or esophageal/intestinal obstruction.

Laxadil-Senna may reduce the absorption of orally co-administered medicines due to its bulk-forming and gel-forming action; other oral drugs should generally be taken at least 1-2 hours before or after this product.

• Digoxin, lithium, and other narrow-therapeutic-index drugs: Reduced absorption/altered plasma levels are possible; separate dosing times and monitor as clinically indicated.
• Warfarin and other anticoagulants: Chronic laxative use altering bowel transit may theoretically affect vitamin K absorption/anticoagulant response; monitor INR if used regularly together.
• Diuretics and corticosteroids: Concurrent use with senna-containing products may increase the risk of electrolyte disturbance (particularly hypokalemia) with excessive or prolonged use.

Most side effects of Laxadil-Senna are mild and gastrointestinal in nature.

• Common: Abdominal cramping or discomfort (mainly related to the senna component), bloating, flatulence, nausea.
• Less common: Diarrhea, especially with excessive dosing.
• Rare but serious: Allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing); intestinal or esophageal obstruction if taken with insufficient fluid; electrolyte disturbances (e.g., hypokalemia) with prolonged or excessive use of the stimulant component.

Discontinue and seek medical advice if severe abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, or signs of an allergic reaction occur.

Laxadil-Senna should be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed and if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk, and only under medical advice. The bulk-forming (psyllium) component is generally considered to have a favorable safety profile in pregnancy and lactation when used as directed with adequate fluid; the senna component is generally considered a second-line option after bulk-forming and osmotic laxatives, used briefly with medical guidance if needed. Consult a physician before use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Laxadil-Senna must always be taken with an adequate amount of fluid; inadequate fluid intake, particularly with the psyllium component, may result in choking or intestinal/esophageal obstruction.

• Not intended for prolonged, continuous daily use; the stimulant (senna) component may lead to laxative dependence, diminished bowel tone, or electrolyte disturbances (e.g., hypokalemia) with chronic or excessive use.
• Abdominal cramping is a common effect of the senna component; if severe or persistent, discontinue and consult a physician.
• Avoid use in children below the age recommended on the product label, as stimulant laxatives are generally not recommended in young children (see Pediatric Use).
• Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus if the product contains sugar; check the label.
• Seek medical advice if constipation persists beyond 7 days, if bleeding occurs, or if there is a failure to have a bowel movement after use, as this may indicate a more serious underlying condition.

Overdose with Laxadil-Senna may cause severe abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and consequent fluid and electrolyte loss (particularly potassium). In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center; do not attempt specific home treatment. Management is generally supportive, with attention to fluid and electrolyte replacement as directed by a physician.
