Decongestant sprays and steroid nasal sprays work differently and are used over different periods; decongestant sprays in particular carry a stated limit on how many days they should be used. Cough syrups vary in composition, and several combine more than one active ingredient. Some products require a prescription. Check the age suitability before giving any of these to a child, and see a registered doctor for a cough lasting more than two weeks, breathing difficulty, or fever with chest pain.
