Ferrous Fumarate + Folic acid is not appropriate for anemias that are not due to iron and/or folate deficiency (e.g., anemia of chronic disease, hemolytic anemia, or vitamin B12-deficiency/pernicious anemia), and should not be used as a substitute for identifying and treating the underlying cause of anemia.
| Indication | Typical Dose |
|---|---|
| Prophylaxis of iron and folate deficiency anemia in pregnancy | One tablet daily, usually starting at the first antenatal visit and continued throughout pregnancy and for a period after delivery (commonly up to about 3 months postpartum), as advised by the physician. |
| Treatment of established iron-deficiency and/or folate-deficiency anemia in pregnancy or adults | One tablet once or twice daily, as directed by the physician, depending on the severity of deficiency and response to treatment. |
Pediatric dosing of Ferrous Fumarate + Folic acid specifically is not well established; iron and folic acid needs in children are usually met with dedicated pediatric formulations at weight-based doses under medical supervision (see Use in Special Populations).
