Marimer Unidose is a non-medicated, sterile saline (sodium chloride) preparation used for intranasal moisturizing and clearing of the nasal passages. It is an established, widely used first-line home-care measure rather than a prescription therapy for a specific disease.

• Established/general use: Relief of nasal dryness, stuffiness, and crusting associated with the common cold, dry or air-conditioned/heated indoor environments, and minor upper respiratory irritation.
• Guideline-supported adjunct use: Loosening and clearing of thick nasal mucus in infants and young children (including before feeding or before use of a nasal aspirator/bulb syringe), and as an adjunct to allergic rhinitis and sinusitis management alongside other prescribed treatments.
• Adjunct use: Supportive nasal hygiene after nasal surgery or with nasal dryness from other medicated nasal sprays, when advised by a physician.

Marimer Unidose is not an antibiotic, decongestant, or antihistamine, and it does not treat the underlying cause of infection or allergy; it does not replace medically directed treatment of a significant sinus infection or structural nasal disease.

Each Nasal Drop typically contains sterile sodium chloride (saline) solution, either isotonic (approximately 0.9%) or hypertonic (approximately 2-3%), in purified water with a suitable pH buffer and, in multi-dose bottles, a preservative (preservative-free single-use vials are also available). No medicated or systemically active ingredient is present.

Mechanism of Action

Nasal Drop works through simple physical and osmotic effects rather than pharmacological action on receptors:

• Isotonic saline matches the salt concentration of body fluids, gently moisturizing dry nasal mucosa and helping loosen thickened mucus so it can be cleared by normal ciliary action, blowing, or suction.
• Hypertonic saline draws fluid out of swollen nasal tissue by osmosis, which can further reduce mucosal edema and congestion.

Because Nasal Drop is not absorbed systemically in any clinically meaningful amount, it has no pharmacokinetic profile (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion) in the way a systemic drug does.

To administer Marimer Unidose: tilt the head back slightly (or lay an infant on their back with head turned slightly to one side), instill the drops into each nostril using a clean dropper/applicator, then keep the head tilted back for a few seconds. For infants and young children, gently suction loosened mucus with a bulb syringe a minute or two after instilling Marimer Unidose if congestion is present. Avoid letting the dropper tip touch the nose or any surface to prevent contamination, and do not share the applicator between individuals.

Marimer Unidose is a non-medicated saline solution with no known clinically significant drug-drug interactions, since it is not absorbed systemically.

When used together with a medicated nasal spray (e.g., a corticosteroid or decongestant spray), it is generally advised to use Marimer Unidose first to clear the nasal passage, then wait a few minutes before administering the medicated spray, so the active medication can reach the nasal mucosa more effectively rather than being diluted or washed away.

Marimer Unidose is generally very well tolerated. Occasional effects can include:

• Transient nasal stinging, burning, or tickling sensation immediately after use (more common with hypertonic formulations)
• Sneezing
• Mild nasal dryness or irritation with frequent use
• Rare, minor nosebleed (epistaxis), particularly with vigorous or excessive use

These effects are usually mild and self-limiting; persistent irritation should prompt discontinuation and medical advice.

It is commonly recommended by clinicians as a first-line, drug-free option for nasal congestion in pregnant and breastfeeding women. • Marimer Unidose is for intranasal use only; do not swallow, inject, or apply to the eyes.
• Use a clean dropper or applicator each time, and avoid letting the tip touch the nostril or any other surface, to prevent contamination of the solution.
• Do not share the Marimer Unidose bottle or applicator between different individuals, especially in infants and young children, to reduce the risk of spreading infection.
• Discontinue use and consult a physician if nasal irritation, burning, or discomfort worsens or persists.
• Marimer Unidose is not a substitute for medically directed treatment of a significant sinus infection, nasal polyps, or other structural nasal disease; seek medical evaluation if symptoms are severe, prolonged (beyond 7-10 days), or associated with fever, facial pain, or blood-tinged discharge.
• Once opened, multi-dose bottles of Marimer Unidose should be used within the timeframe stated on the label and discarded thereafter to avoid contamination.

Because Marimer Unidose is a non-medicated saline solution without systemic pharmacological activity, true overdose in the sense of drug toxicity is not expected. Excessive or very frequent use may cause increased nasal irritation or dryness. If a large amount is accidentally swallowed or if any unexpected symptoms occur, seek medical attention or contact a poison control center/emergency services for guidance, as a general precaution.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, and discard opened multi-dose bottles as directed on the label.

Infants and neonates: Marimer Unidose is commonly used and considered safe for clearing nasal congestion in infants, including newborns, typically with 2-3 drops per nostril followed by gentle bulb suction if needed.

Elderly: No special precautions are required for Marimer Unidose in elderly patients; it may be used as needed for nasal dryness, which is common with aging or with certain medications.

Renal or hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is needed for Marimer Unidose, since it is not systemically absorbed or metabolized.

Patients using other nasal medications: Marimer Unidose can generally be used alongside medicated nasal sprays; see Interactions for timing advice.

Marimer Unidose may be used for as long as needed for symptomatic relief, including long-term daily use for chronic nasal dryness, since it is non-medicated and does not carry a risk of rebound congestion (unlike medicated decongestant sprays). If congestion or dryness persists beyond 7-10 days without improvement, or symptoms worsen, medical evaluation is advised to rule out an underlying condition requiring specific treatment.
